MAIDEN INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT SET TO TAKE OFF FROM VICTOR ATTAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, UYO, ON SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2026, TO KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, ACCRA, GHANA


1. Following Presidential approval for the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to international status, and the concerted investments by the administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, to put in place all required technical and infrastructural facilities, the Akwa Ibom State Government hereby announces the maiden international flight from Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana, on Saturday, May 2, 2026.


2. The maiden international flight, to be operated by  our flagship airline, Ibom Air, is scheduled to depart Uyo for Accra, Ghana, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with a return flight scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026.


3. This historic milestone represents a significant step in the State’s strategic drive to expand its aviation capacity, enhance international connectivity, and position Akwa Ibom as a preferred destination for tourism and investment.

4. While this maiden flight signals the commencement of international operations from Uyo, the official opening of the new terminal building and full commercial flight schedules will be announced in due course.


5. The Government expresses its profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for granting approval, and to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, for his efforts in ensuring the realization of this vision.


6. The Government and people of Akwa Ibom State also appreciate the contributions of former governors of the State for their pioneering roles in the development of the aviation sector and reiterate their commitment to the sustained development of the aviation ecosystem for the economic advancement of the State.
