Nigeria scores 91 percent in ICAO safety audit
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, yesterday, announced that Nigeria secured 91percent in the just concluded safety audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
The Minister made the announcement yesterday in Abuja in the presence of the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Captain Chris Najomo, Managing Director of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) airline operators and other industry stakeholders.
The rating is an upward increase from the 73percent Effective Implementation (EI) score of the Nigerian safety audit in 2023.
Keyamo said “In 2023, Nigeria scored 73 per cent, which is considered to be very low and this affected the rating of our airlines. But after 3years of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. With support of the NCAA, FAAN and NAMA, Nigeria, for the first time since 1960, recorded the highest score in terms of safety and has recorded 91.4percent.”
He attributed the feat to the deliberate policy of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration giving support and the initiatives in the sector, saying ICAO is very pleased with the Nigerian Aviation industry.
Commending the heads of aviation agencies, the minister disclosed that the ministry in the last two years, set up a central committee under his leadership because they were not happy with the previous score.
